ID Released of Man Struck by Train in Downer's Grove

Pedestrian was hit at about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Avenue near the Main Street station

Metra officials say no new safety measures are planned despite the deaths of five pedestrians so far this month at guard crossings. Sandra Endo reports.

A pedestrian struck and killed Tuesday morning on Metra's BNSF line near a west suburban Downers Grove station was identified Friday as David Conrad Jr.

Officials said preliminary information suggested the 21-year-old may have intentionally walked in front of the oncoming train.

Inbound Train #1262, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 10:47 a.m., struck Conrad at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Avenue near the Main Street station, Lt. Mike Wilson said.

Conrad was pronounced dead at the scene.

A day earlier, a train on the BNSF line fatally struck a person near the West Hinsdale station. The train was passing through Hinsdale around 2:20 p.m. when the pedestrian was hit.

Trains were delayed for hours and large crowds formed at Union Station downtown, according to reports.

Last week, a 56-year-old Bensenville woman rushing to get a head start on her day was struck and killed by a Metra train just steps west of the tracks near Addison Street.
