Four Injured in Crash Involving Police Car

The U.S. military has concluded its investigation into the burning of Qurans at a NATO base in Afghanistan in February, and recommended administrative punishment for the troops involved.

A vehicle carrying three people ran a red light near the 6800 block of S. Indiana Ave. around 2 a.m., police said. The vehicle struck a passing squad car then crashed into a pole.

The officers suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver and passengers in the other car were all transported to area hospitals in critical condition.

Fire Media Affairs said one of the passengers, 25-year-old Shawn Garrett, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 2:49 a.m.  The other two passengers are listed in critical condition this morning at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and Northwestern Hospital.

The officers were taken to Christ Hospital and are listed in good condition. Police News Affairs said no charges have been filed as of this morning.
