Multi-Vehicle Crash Leaves 1 Dead, Shuts Down Route 41 Near Waukegan

A multi-vehicle crash on Route 41 near Waukegan shut down the roadway for several hours early Friday morning. 

Police said the crash happened around 2 a.m. just before the Old Skokie Road exit in North Chicago and involved three vehicles, two of which appeared rolled over at the scene. 

Few details were released by authorities but the Lake County Coroner confirmed one man was killed in the crash. Other injuries were reported but it was not immediately clear how many people were hurt or what their conditions were. 

North Chicago Police said all victims were transported to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. 

Route 41 was shut down between Martin Luther King Drive and Route 120 throughout the morning. 

Investigators remained at the scene for several hours with both the northbound and southbound lanes of the roadway closed "until further notice," authorities said. 

"Due to the severity of the accident, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was activated to assist with the investigation," North Chicago Police said in a statement. "The collision remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department."
