Service Restored, Delays Remain After Power Outage on Metra Trains

Some trains were halted between 51st Street and Millennium Station

A power outage during the height of rush hour Tuesday caused a shutdown service coming in and out of the city for several hours. Although service was restored later in the evening, there were still delays. NBC 5’s Patrick Fazio has the latest.

Inbound and outbound Metra Electric trains out of Millennium Station were temporarily halted Tuesday afternoon due to "electrical power issues," officials announced on Twitter.

After hours of trains beinghalted between 51st Street and Millennium Station due to a power outage, Metra officials said service had been restored.

About 30 minutes after the incident was first reported on Twitter, officials said riders should expect extensive delays before the issue was to be resolved.

At approximately 5:37 p.m. Metra issued a statement indicating that power had been restored, however Eastbound trains impacted included: 113, 115, 117, 17 & 217; Westbound trains impacted included: 220 & 20.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, "extensive delays" were still being reported.

Metra officials recommended passengers take an alternate transportation.
