Man Charged After Police Discover Heroin in Harvey Home

Police Recover Heroin, Scales and Cell Phones.

A man was charged Thursday after police confiscated 30 bags of heroin from a Harvey home, officials said.

Officers with the Harvey Police Special Operations Unit conducted the raid after a search warrant was issued Wednesday for the home in the 14500 block of Clinton Street.

Johnny Williams was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of cannabis, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Police also arrested the suspect's girlfriend and her aunt.

The home was boarded up after the incident and was posted for non-occupancy, officials said.

“Upon entering the location I found there are roaches. You can smell them when you enter the house,” said LaTonya Rufus, the director of planning and development.

For the alderman who represents the ward, the city’s strategy for handling these crimes appears to be working.

“I don't think there is no other way to do it,” said Ald. Keith Price.

Harvey Police Chief Denard Eaves said police plan to assist the owner of the property with eventually putting a good family in the home.
