Lower Wacker Drive Set to Reopen This Month

Completion of $300 million project reinstates popular downtown traffic detour

One of the best ways to avoid downtown traffic is set to reopen after years of construction.

Traffic will begin flowing on Lower Wacker Drive by the end of November, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The full completion of the project will come in stages, starting with the reopening of the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Wacker Drive on Thursday. CDOT officials say the Wacker-Van Buren Street intersection will be closed until Nov. 30, when traffic to Lower and Upper Wacker will be restored at the Congress Parkway interchange, Interstate 290 and Harrison Street, the newspaper reports.

The $300 million Wacker Drive project kicked off in May 2010.
