A suburban animal shelter is part of a massive effort to save nearly a thousand animals that were facing euthanasia at a Texas shelter.
Wright-Way Rescue, a no-kill shelter in Morton Grove, is taking in 40 small adult dogs and puppies as part of the partnership with the Best Friends Animal Society. The animals are coming from the Palm Valley Animal Center in Texas, and they will be ready to be fostered immediately upon their arrival in Illinois on Monday.
According to a press release, the so-called “Texas 40” will be ready for adoption in two weeks.
Texas is responsible for 25 percent of America’s homeless pet population, according to the press release, and 70 percent of the animals brought to the Palm Valley Animal Center are euthanized.
The organization cites limited or no access to low-price spay and neuter services in rural areas, as well as low population density, for the high euthanasia rates at the center.
