An Indiana woman was arrested Friday on allegations she had a loaded handgun in her purse when she entered a downtown courthouse.
Ana Claudia Gomez went to the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington St., to help her father with eviction issues, according to a statement from the Cook County Sheriff’s office.
Deputies performing a routine security screening found a semi-automatic 9 mm handgun inside Gomez purse, according to the sheriff’s office. The gun was loaded with seven bullets, three of which were "hollow-point."
Gomez, 38, of Whiting, Ind., told deputies she forgot the gun was in her purse, according to the sheriff’s office. She has a license to carry the gun in Indiana.
Gomez was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and ordered held on $25,000 bond Saturday, the sheriff’s office said. She has since posted bail.
