A 7-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot Sunday night while walking his bicycle up the steps of his family’s home. Christian Farr reports.
Chicago Police have charged a juvenile in a weekend shooting that injured a 7-year-old boy on the front steps of his family's home.
Shots rang out Sunday around 9 p.m. on the 4200 block of West 5th Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.
Tavion Jackson was struck twice, in the arm and under the arm. He was released from Mount Sinai Hospital and is recovering at home. Tavion's mother said the boy was helping a cousin carry her bike into the house when shots were fired.
"He just raised his arm and said that he had been shot," Tasha McDuffie, told reporters.
Police said the shots were fired at a car on the street in front of the boy's home, and Tavion wasn't the intended target.
The juvenile charged in the incident was due in bond court Tuesday.
