Chicago Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips has fired long-time GM Jerry Angelo, the team said in a statement.
Angelo was hired in 2001 and led the team to four division titles and two NFC Championship appearances and one Super Bowl loss during his 11-year.
The move does not come as a shock. Angelo has been on the hot seat for some time because of a series of suspect personnel decisions -- the most glaring: he failed to develop a solid second quarterback.
His mismanagement of the Bears offensive line has also been a sticking point for Chicago fans, as is his spotty record in the draft.
Lovie Smith, who was hired by Angelo, will stay on as head coach, the Bears said.
