An armed car robbery unfolded in broad daylight in a Chicago suburb, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the armored car crew. The suspects, still at large, managed to carjack an elderly’s vehicle, leaving law enforcement agencies scrambling to apprehend them while offering a substantial reward for information leading to their capture.

Police in south suburban Country Club Hills were searching for multiple suspects wanted in connection with a shootout and attempted armored truck robbery outside a Walmart store on Monday morning, according to the FBI.

Footage from the scene showed police tape and a number of law enforcement vehicles at the store just before 11:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of 167th Street. Evidence markers appeared scattered around the exterior of the store. An FBI spokesperson said an armored truck was in front of the business when a sedan approached at a high rate of speed, and the people inside began firing shots.

The employees in the armored car exchanged gunfire with the suspects, as did a security officer who exited the store when the situation unfolded. Authorities said a suspect was believed to have been hit by at least one round.

The gunmen subsequently ran from the car, carjacked a vehicle from an elderly person and fled the scene, police said. The shooters had yet to be apprehended as of Monday afternoon.

The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest or conviction of suspects in any local armored car robberies, including Monday's incident.
