Groupon, CPS Partner For School Supplies

Groupon's latest partner is close to home for a good cause.

The Chicago-based deals site announced Monday it's teaming up with Chicago Public Schools to help buy school supplies for low-income students.

The Kits for Kidz campaign will be available on Groupon.com/Chicago starting Tuesday and will let local residents pledge $12 to buy a school supplies kit for a CPS student. It's part of Groupon's G-Team project to help benefit local communities.

"By providing students with a year’s worth of school supplies, Chicagoans can help a child come to school ready to learn,” CPS chief Jean-Claude Brizard said in a statement. “We are grateful for Groupon’s support that has given this effort the kind of visibility only Groupon can provide.”

The kits include school supplies basics such as folders, notebooks, pencils, crayons and glue sticks. They will be distributed at neighborhood festivals and back-to-school events, according to Groupon.

Chicagoans can pledge in $12 increments. All proceeds from Groupon's Kits for Kidz campaign will buy school supplies for CPS students.

“Everyone should be a partner in our efforts to get our kids into school on the first day and prepared for the classroom," Brizard said.
