Girl, 3, Found Walking Alone in East Chicago

Officers responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. Monday after a woman found the child outside without a jacket when it was about 39 degrees

A man has been arrested after a 3-year-old girl was found walking alone at night in East Chicago.

Officers responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. Monday after a woman found the child outside without a jacket when it was about 39 degrees.

The Munster Times reports that a man who identified himself as the child's stepfather approached the officers and said he had left his home "for two minutes" while the girl was sleeping. The officers told the man that they had been at the scene for 30 minutes and then arrested him.

Police say the girl was taken to a hospital for treatment and placed in protective custody.
