Chicago firefighters spent Friday battling a massive tire fire on the city’s South Side, and NBC 5’s Chris Hush has the latest on the battle to contain the blaze.
Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles as an extra-alarm fire erupted Friday on Chicago's Far South Side, prompting a large fire response and a Hazmat situation.
Fire officials said the fire was reported near 117th Street and Torrence Avenue around 2 p.m. According to Chicago Fire Media, piles of shredded rubber were on fire.
The fire has been elevated to a 3-11 alarm blaze, as extra fire trucks and a Hazmat team were summoned to the scene.
No injuries were immediately reported, and further information wasn't immediately available.
