2 Adults, 5 Children Killed in I-90 Crash in McHenry County

Illinois State Police say a wrong-way driver on Interstate 90 caused a fiery collision that killed a total of seven people, including five children, early Sunday in McHenry County. NBC 5’s Jen DeSalvo reports.

Five children were among seven killed Sunday in McHenry County after two vehicles collided on Interstate 90, according to Illinois State Police.

A vehicle was reportedly driving the wrong way when it struck another one at approximately 2:11 a.m. near the village of Hampshire, according to police. Both vehicles burst into flames upon impact.

A women and five children inside the van died in the collision, as did a woman who was in the other vehicle, police said.

Police also reported that one person with severe injuries was airlifted to a hospital nearby.

A portion of westbound I-90 was closed for hours as authorities worked on scene.

None of the victims had been identified as of late Sunday. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
