Fans Can Golf with Football HOFers

Football and golf fans will have the chance to golf with some of their greatest football heroes at the Hall of Fame Invitational

For those who dream about playing a game of golf with a football Hall of Famer, the time is now.

A Ryder Cup event dubbed the "Hall of Fame Invitational" partners PGA of America and the Pro Football Hall of Fame to pair renowned footballers with participants to play an intimate game of golf.

Participating Hall of Famers include Dermontti Dawson, Chris Doleman, Marshall Faulk, Dan Hampton, Mike Haynes, James Lofton, Randall McDaniel, Warren Moon, Anthony Munoz, Bruce Smith, Thurman Thomas and Kellen Winslow.

The event, scheduled for Sept. 27 at Olympia Fields Country Club, will go for $6,000 per play, but an early registration incentive offers participants a ticket for $5,500.

The invitational comes as the annual historic golf competition the Ryder Cup, an event featuring the world's most prominent golders, hits the Chicago area Sept. 25 through Sept. 30. Similar events took place earlier in the season as Chicago Bears players and Greenbay Packers players faced off in a Ryder Cup-style golf outing the Rivalry Cup.

“The Hall of Fame Invitational is a wonderful way to bring together the great sports of football and golf while celebrating the 2012 Ryder Cup,” George Veras, President/CEO of Pro Football Hall of Fame Enterprises, said in a statement. “Participants are going to have an unforgettable experience, and on behalf of everyone at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, we’re looking forward to a terrific day on the course.”

Participants will receive two weekly season tickets to the 2012 Ryder Cup, admittance to “draft” reception with Pro Football Hall of Famers, the chance to golf with selected footballers, event apparel, a gift package and signed memorabilia by all participating Hall of Famers.

“This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to spend a day golfing with their football heroes and gain admittance to the 2012 Ryder Cup, which is a sold-out event," Michael Belot, 2012 Ryder Cup Director said in a statement.
