Family and friends remembered a 12-year-old girl from Harvey at a birthday party on Saturday just days after she died in a shooting. NBC 5’s Lexi Sutter reports.
The family of a south suburban Harvey girl who was killed by a stray bullet on her 12th birthday celebrated their loved one's life by having a birthday party on Saturday.
Kentavia Blackful was sitting at her computer inside her home near the intersection of 158th and Paulina on Sept. 24 when she was shot in the head by a bullet from outside the house, police said. Blackful later died at the hospital.
The 12-year-old was planning for her birthday party on the evening she was shot. Blackful's parents said she was so excited for her party at the Markham Roller Rink, they couldn't cancel.
"Just seeing all the love my daughter got is really helping us right now," said Trenton Blackful, Kentavia Blackful's father.
Dozens of kids spent their evening skating, playing games and having cake all while remembering their friend.
"It hurts so much, because she was special, and she was one of my very best friends," said friend Heavenly Silas.
As of Saturday, police were still working on finding suspects in the young girl's death.

"I want justice for my baby, because she did not to leave the earth like that," said Kentnilla Blackful, Kentavia Blackful's mother.
A $3,500 reward was being offered to find the gunmen responsible for Blackful's death.
