A man was fatally shot and his mother and brother suffered injuries after a family dispute got violently out of control in the northwestern suburb of Huntley Monday.

Officers responded to the home in the 11000 block of Morning Glory Lane at around 5 p.m. after receiving a call from 81-year-old Alyce Grundei stating she'd been shot.

Police say Grundei -- who was bleeding from the head and suffering from an eye injury -- was holding a gun when officers arrived.

Her two sons, Mark Grundei, 50, and Robert Grundei, 48, were discovered inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say the two brothers were arguing when one of the men grabbed a gun and shot his sibling in the chest. Alyce Grundei suffered a graze wound while trying to stop the shooting, according to police.

Robert Grundei, who was visiting from Florida, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Mark Grundei suffered a contact gunshot wound to his head and was listed in critical condition.

Police recovered a gun from the scene but are still investigating which brother started the shooting.

NBC 5 has learned that the family was together to plan a funeral for the youngest son who died in a Deerfield retention pond on May 16.
