The family of a young shooting victim issued a plea for a teen to turn himself in after another boy was shot and killed in a tragic accident over the weekend.
The shooting took place at around 3 p.m. Saturday in the 7300 block of South Aberdeen Street in the city's Englewood neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
Authorities say the two teens were hanging out at a home, playing with a gun when it accidentally discharged, striking 13-year-old Deon Williams in the head.
He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
The victim's father said other kids who were there told him the boy was joking when he pulled out the gun and pointed it Williams, and that he ran away after the gun went off.
Donald Williams and community activist Andrew Holmes issued a call to the boy to turn himself in, saying they believed he was a victim in this case as well.
"I have no ill feelings against him or his family," Donald Williams said. "If it was an accident I just want him to come in, tell them what happened, accept what they're going to do to him, and then let them get him some help."

No one was in custody in connection with the case as of Monday morning, according to police, who continue to investigate.
