Disgraced Former Cicero President Betty Loren-Maltese will take you to your seat.
Loren-Maltese has landed her first job out of federal prison. Next week, she will start working as an evening hostess for a high-end pizza parlor in a west suburb, Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed reports.
"She's a good sport and is enthusiastic about getting back into the working world," a friend told Sneed. "Betty wants to get on with her life, has a daughter she hopes to see again and friends who care about her. She's got a lot of us rooting for her."
In 2002, Loren-Maltese political and personal world came crashing down. She was convicted of swindling Cicero taxpayers out of $12 million in a insurance scheme. Her daughter, Ashleigh Rose, had to live with her mother, Kitty.
The once-powerful Cicero leader spent seven years in the big house only to return to a halfway house in Chicago to finish her probation sentence last February. She currently lives in Evergreen Park according to Sneed.
The once-powerful Cicero leader, who was force to fork over her assets after her conviction, is still on the hook to pay back $8 million in restitution to Cicero. Illinois' minimum wage is $8 an hour. If she works 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year and never takes a vacation, she will pay off her debt to society in little over 480 years.
