Shooting, Crash Shut Down EB Eisenhower Expressway During Rush Hour: Police

A metal fragment found in a sandbank off Mozambique might well be debris from Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 because it is consistent with theories about where the wreckage may lie, Australia’s transport minister said Thursday as victims’ families called for a full search of the east African coast. The fragment, which could be part of the missing Boeing 777’s horizontal stabilizer, was found by American adventurer Blaine Gibson. It was being taken to Australia where it will be examined by international specialists and officials from Malaysia.

A shooting and crash shut down all eastbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway for much of Tuesday afternoon's rush hour.

Illinois State Police confirmed there was a shooting on Interstate 290 near Morgan Street just after 3 p.m. It is the 11th shooting on I-290 this year and 45th overall on Chicago expressways, Illinois State Police confirmed.

Police reported a single-vehicle crash on the roadway but while responding, officers found a person shot in the abdomen. The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment but their condition was not known.

Another person in the vehicle suffered a broken leg when the vehicle crashed into a median wall following the shooting.

I-290 eastbound at Morgan Street was closed temporarily while police investigated the shooting. Traffic was being diverted at Racine Avenue.

Just before 5:30 p.m., some lanes were reopening.

Police said an investigation into the shooting remained ongoing and no one was in custody as of 6 p.m.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any knowledge of what happened is being asked to call (847) 294-4400.
