Derailment Reported on CTA Purple Line Train Near Bryn Mawr Station

Red Line service between Howard and Belmont was suspended as a result, as was Purple Line Express service to the loop, CTA tweeted.

One wheel came off of a southbound train before 6:30 p.m. in the area of 1119 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., according to the Chicago Fire Department.

A total of 24 passengers were onboard the train, a CFD spokesman said.

Red Line service between Howard and Belmont was suspended as a result of the derailment, as was Purple Line Express service to the Loop.

What led up to the incident wasn't immediately clear.
