Professor Daley?

What's next for Mayor Richard Daley after a new mayor fills his seat on May 17?

Writing a book and maybe teaching a class, Daley told Lee Sweet of the Sun Times Wednesday.

Considering he's been an elected official since 1980 and Chicago's top gun since 1989, this will be Daley's first unscheduled time off in years. And he wants to fill the time with something more than sitting around or watching TV.

Daley told the Sun Times he's pondering a book centered around policy, with a touch of memoir mixed in. As for the class, his sights are set on global urban issues and maybe a government or leadership class.

In the past, Daley has been a speaker at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and has given a yearly presentation to a class at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Chicago's new mayor gets sworn in May 16.
