Daley Biography Due in 2013

Former Mayor Richard Daley is getting his first big biography.

The University of Chicago Press will publish "First Son: The Biography of Richard M. Daley" by Keith Koeneman in spring 2013, the publisher announced Thursday.

The book covers Daley's life and 22-year reign as mayor via 100 "exclusive" interviews, according to a statement from U of C Press, which boasts the author as a third generation Chicagoan and a Daley expert. It discusses Daley's achievements in office and how they surpassed those of his father.

"A complicated man, Richard M. Daley is sensitive yet tough, impatient yet persistent, a street-smart and cutthroat policy expert who as mayor not only ran Chicago, but was Chicago," the statement reads.

During his last days in office, Daley said he planned to use his time for teaching, public speaking and writing a memoir. He has since landed a five-year fellowship position with U of C and a "counsel" job at the law firm that helped negotiate Chicago's parking meter deal.
