The Cubs announced that the bleacher expansion in Wrigley Field will not be complete until late May, long after the season opener in April. NBC 5’s Trina Orlando reports.
The Cubs announced Saturday that the bleacher renovation project will not be complete in time for the season opener, putting fans with season tickets in a unique situation.
The left field bleachers are expected to be ready by early May followed by the right field bleachers in late May, according to Crane Kenney, the Cubs president of business operations. Kenney delivered the renovation update Saturday afternoon during the weekend-long Cubs Convention.
Season ticket holders will receive three options for all of the games between opening April 5, which is Opening Day, and May 11. They can choose between to get a full refund for the games they miss, add credit to an account to buy seats before they are available to the general public or relocate their seats to another available section. For the last option, ticket holders will have to pay the difference or receive a refund to account for a price difference.
Ticket holders must make their choice by Jan. 29 or the credit option will automatically be applied to an account, according to Kenney.
The bleacher project is part of a bigger Wrigley Field renovation project that includes the addition of seven new outfield signs and a 2,400-square-foot video scoreboard.
