CTA Train Service Temporarily Suspended Due to Incident

It is unclear what the medical emergency was

CTA Red Line service has been temporarily suspended between Howard and Belmont, officials say, "due to an incident involving a train" Sunday morning.

According to CFD officials, CTA confirmed there was no derailment as originally reported, "simply a switch issue."

As of 9:50 a.m. Sunday, "all passengers are off the train," CFD tweeted. "No injuries or transports. Passengers continued on to their destinations."

Around 9:10 a.m., CTA alerted travelers that trains would only be operating between Belmont and 95th.

"Consider other service alternatives that may serve your trip, such as nearby bus routes, or using buses to other rail lines," the statement read.

Moreover, as of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, the CTA announced the Yellow Line service was also temporarily suspended due to the same incident.

Another alert was issued close to 9:40 a.m. Sunday suggesting limited service and delays expected at Purple Line following the incident involving a train at Howard. Shuttles will be provided between South BLVD and Linden, the CTA stated.

Officials say crews are working to restore service and urge travelers to allow for extra travel time in the meantime.

No other information was immediately known.
