CTA Bus Evacuated After Man Throws Backpack Inside: Officials

A CTA bus was evacuated on Chicago’s Northwest Side Tuesday afternoon after a man threw a backpack inside the vehicle, authorities said.

The "suspicious package" was thrown onto the 82 Kimball bus near Elston and Kimball in Chicago’s Irving Park neighborhood, Chicago fire and CTA officials said.

Chicago police said officers were investigating "an unattended backpack" found on the bus.

The Chicago police K-9 and Bomb and Arson squad cleared the scene, officials said.

Elson was closed from Waveland Avenue to Grace Street, officials said.

A spokeswoman for the CTA said she could not remember an incident like this in recent memory.
