2nd Cold-Related Death of Season Reported in Cook County

Another man passed away earlier this month due to the unseasonable cold

Authorities in Cook County have confirmed the areas second cold-related death of the season on Wednesday after the death of a 64-year-old man.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the man was found in the 0-100 block of South Hamlin Avenue in Chicago. He was pronounced dead, and the cause of death was ruled to be cold exposure, with lung cancer and chronic lymphocytic leukemia as contributing factors in his death.

The M.E. determined that the death was an accident.

Earlier this month, a 52-year-old man was found dead in the 500 block of East 107th Street in the first cold-related death of the season.

Authorities say there were at least 31 cold-related deaths in the county last winter.

Residents in need of warming centers throughout the Cook County area can call 311, or visit the city of Chicago’s website, which lists at least 113 different places were residents can warm up in cold weather.
