Complaint: Green Bay Man Admits to Killing 8 Dogs

A Green Bay man accused of setting fire to his home and killing eight dogs has been charged.

Paul Phillips, 53, was charged Friday with one count of arson and eight counts of animal mistreatment, causing death.

According to a criminal complaint, Phillips said he was being evicted and needed to get rid of his pets. Fire officials found three fires set in the duplex and Phillips allegedly told police the smoke killed the dogs.

The complaint says Phillips also told authorities he intended to kill himself.

Police arrived to the fire Sunday to find him on the phone with dispatchers, covered in soot and with burned hair.

Online court records don't list an attorney to comment on Phillips' behalf.
