Chopper Makes Emergency Landing in West Side Park

Fire Department dismisses any connection to Obama rally

A private helicopter was forced to land in a city park Tuesday night.

The aircraft made an emergency landing in the West Side’s Garfield Park neighborhood at about 11:15 p.m.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said helicopter N79PD took off from Midway Airport and made a slow decent because of a cautionary light.

The chopper touched down in Smith Park, near North Rockwell Street and West Grand Avenue.

The helicopter was not related to Barack Obama’s rally at Hutchinson Field, according to the Fire Department.

Three people onboard escaped without injury.

The FAA is investigating.
