Child Thrown From 3rd Floor at Mall of America, Police Say

A 24-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly threw a 5-year-old child from the third floor of the Mall of America near Minneapolis.

According to Bloomington police, the child suffered “significant” injuries after the incident, which occurred at the mall on Friday morning. Police believe that the man involved in the incident pushed or threw the young child from the third floor of the mall, causing the child to fall all the way to the first floor.

The victim is being treated at a local hospital, but the extent of the child's injuries is unknown at this time.

Police say the suspect fled the scene after the incident, but was apprehended shortly afterward. Authorities said during a Friday press conference that they do not believe there is an ongoing threat, calling it an “isolated incident.”

Authorities also said they do not believe there is a relationship between the suspect and the child.
