Chicago Pulls Out of World Cup Running

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office says FIFA, soccer’s governor’s body, is not willing to negotiate, nor provide a basic level of certainty on “major unknowns” that put the city and taxpayers at risk. Canada, the U.S. and Mexico have a joint bid to host the tournament. Chicago’s Soldier Field was one of 32 potential venues for games if the north american joint bid is accepted. FIFA expects to announce the winning bid in June.
