9 Killed, at Least 33 Wounded in Weekend Shootings in Chicago

Shootings in Chicago over the weekend have claimed the lives of nine people and wounded more than 30 others, according to police. 

The latest fatal shooting happened just after midnight Monday, when a 26-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 3000 block of West 60th Street. The man was standing in the street next to a car when police said someone in a passing tan-colored sedan traveling westbound on the roadway fired shots in his directions. The 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. 

In another fatal shooting, three people were shot and killed in the 10200 block of South Ewing on Sunday evening. The shooting occurred at 5:32 p.m., and two men and one woman were shot multiple times. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. 

According to police, the three individuals were shot in an alleged home invasion, and the case is being investigated as a self-defense shooting. 

Earlier in the day, a 20-year-old man was shot and killed after a physical altercation Sunday morning. The man was involved in an altercation with two other men when one of them pulled out a gun and shot him in the head. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Hospital. 

A 27-year-old woman was killed a short time later in the 1400 block of W. 54th St. She was found on a sidewalk after police responded to a call of shots fired. She was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. 

Around 7 a.m., a 25-year-old man was approached by a man in a black hoodie and was shot twice in the torso. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in grave condition, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

Two men were shot and killed outside a church in Chicago's South Austin neighborhood on Sunday morning. The men were walking up the stairs of the church when two men approached, and one of them opened fire. Both victims were hit multiple times, and were pronounced dead at local hospitals. 

Friday: 

  • A man was walking in the 7100 block of S. Ellis at approximately 2:18 p.m. when he heard gunshots. The 49-year-old was struck in the leg, and was taken to South Shore Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 52-year-old man was shot in the leg on the 2500 block of S. Troy. The shooting, which took place just before 4 p.m., occurred while the man was sitting on the side of a residence. A man approached and fired a shot, which grazed the man. He was transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition.
  • A verbal argument in the 1900 block of N. Spaulding ended with a 17-year-old boy sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting, which took place just after 4 p.m., left the boy with gunshot wounds to his arm, back, and chest, and he was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
  • A 22-year-old man was shot in the head and right shoulder at 10:30 p.m. in the 7900 block of S. Springfield. The man was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition. He was sitting in a car when a silver Lexus pulled up and one of the occupants opened fire. No one is in custody.
  • A 36-year-old man was shot in the right leg while standing outside in the 3300 block of W. Flournoy. The shooting occurred at 11:35 p.m. when a man in a car fired shots at the 36-year-old. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Saturday: 

  • On the 300 block of N. Lorel, a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg at approximately 2:16 a.m. He was taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition.
  • An 18-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 200 block of S. Kildare when he was shot in the leg. A white Chevy Malibu pulled up at approximately 2:18 a.m., and a man exited the vehicle and fired shots at the victim. The teenager was taken to Mt. Sinai in fair condition.
  • A 23-year-old man was sitting in a car in the 6400 block of S. Hoyne at approximately 6:09 a.m. when a silver sedan pulled up alongside the car, and an occupant inside fired shots at him. The man suffered a gunshot wound on his hand and a graze wound to the neck, and was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition.
  • An 18-year-old man was shot in the wrist in the 8000 block of S. Crandon at approximately 11:17 a.m. Police said that the victim’s story has been inconsistent, and the gunshot wound may have been self-inflicted. He was taken to South Shore Hospital in stable condition.
  • At 6:39 p.m., a 52 year old man got into a verbal altercation with another person, and was shot in the leg. The shooting, which occurred in the 5500 block of S. Bishop, left the man in stable condition at Stroger Hospital.
  • A 33-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her ear when she was shot in the 6200 block of S. King. She refused medical attention after the shooting, which took place at approximately 8:23 p.m.
  • A 26-year-old man suffered a graze wound on his left hip after he was shot on the 6200 block of S. Martin Luther King Dr. at approximately 8:30 p.m. The victim was walking down the street when shots rang out and he realized he’d been hit. He was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition.
  • A man shot a 21-year-old man in the leg on the 1300 block of S. Karlov at approximately 8:49 p.m. The victim was standing on the street when the gunman approached on foot and fired shots. The victim was taken to West Suburban Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 17-year-old boy was driving a car at approximately 10:13 p.m. in the 800 block of N. Cicero when a person in another car pulled up alongside him and fired shots. The boy was taken to Norwegian Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his right hip.
  • A 37-year-old man was involved in an argument with another man when he was shot in the left leg. The shooting occurred on the 1200 block of W. 71st Pl. at approximately 10:41 p.m. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 50-year-old man was walking through an alley in the 3400 block of W. Madison at approximately 11:10 p.m. when he was shot in the right arm. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in stable condition.
  • On the 3900 block of W. 18th St., an 18-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot in the right leg at approximately 11:19 p.m. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in stable condition.

Sunday:

  • A 20-year-old man was shot and killed after a physical altercation in the 1300 block of N. Hudson. The victim was involved in an altercation with two other men at approximately 12:07 a.m., and one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him in the head. The victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  • On the 1400 block of W. 54th St. at approximately 12:24 a.m., a 27-year-old woman was shot to death. Police responded to a call of shots fired, and they found the victim on a sidewalk. She was transported to Stroger with gunshot wounds to her legs and neck, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.
  • A 39-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle at approximately 1:50 a.m. in the 2500 block of W. Division when he was struck by gunfire. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his right hip.
  • A 32-year-old man was standing on a porch on the 900 block of W. 54th St. at approximately 2:30 a.m. when he was shot in the left leg. Occupants in a passing vehicle fired shots at the residence, striking the victim. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
  • A 31-year-old man was shot in the 5900 block of W. Wabansia at approximately 3 a.m. The victim was in an alley when a black Nissan pulled up and one of the occupants fired shots at him. He suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg, and was taken to West Sub hospital in stable condition.
  • A 35-year-old man was standing on a street in the 11300 block of S. State at approximately 3:25 a.m. when he was shot in the left foot. He was transported to Metro South in good condition.
  • A black Impala pulled up and an occupant fired shots at a 37-year-old man standing on the street in the 0-100 block of N. Central at approximately 4:35 a.m. The man suffered graze wounds to his hand and head, and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
  • At 6:52 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot to death in the 1000 block of West Montrose. The victim was shot by a man in a black hoodie. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to his torso, and he was taken to Illinois Masonic in grave condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
  • A 21-year-old man was seated in the passenger seat of a car in the 4000 block of N. Central at approximately 8 a.m. when he was shot. The victim had a verbal dispute with a 22-year-old man, who produced a gun and shot him in the buttocks. He refused medical treatment at the scene, and the alleged shooter is in custody.
  • Two men were shot and killed outside of a church in the 200 block of S. Laramie at approximately 11:19 a.m. Sunday morning. Two offenders approached on foot and fired shots at a 34-year-old man, striking him multiple times. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 46-year-old man was also shot multiple times, and he was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai.
  • Two men were shot and wounded in the 5300 block of S. Hoyne at approximately 1:49 p.m. Two people, one of them on a red bicycle, pulled up to the residence and fired shots at the victims, who were on a porch. A 28-year-old man is in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital, and a 26-year-old is in stable condition at St. Bernard Hospital.
  • A gang-affiliated man was shot in the buttocks on the 3200 block of W. Hirsch at approximately 3:32 p.m. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in stable condition, police said.
  • A 22-year-old man was shot after a verbal dispute during a basketball game. The shooting occurred in the 1900 block of E. Hayes at approximately 4:17 p.m. During the dispute, a man pulled out a gun and fired shots at the victim before fleeing the scene in a dark-colored sedan. The victim was taken to University of Chicago hospital in stable condition.
  • Three people were shot and killed in the 10200 block of S. Ewing at approximately 5:32 p.m. Two men and one woman were shot multiple times, and were all pronounced dead at the scene.
  • At 5:54 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the 200 block of W. 113th St. The man was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 28-year-old man was shot in the side and was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition. The shooting occurred in the 1400 block of W. 109th St. at approximately 6:04 p.m. A dark sedan pulled up to where the victim was located, and shots fired from the car struck the man.
  • A 37-year-old man was shot in the back at approximately 7:35 p.m. The shooting occurred in the 1200 block of N. Mayfield. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • At about 9:20 p.m., two men were shot while standing on the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard. The men told police they were standing on the street when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire. A 20-year-old man was shot in the back and a 25-year-old man was shot in the buttocks. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

Monday:

  • At about 2:30 a.m. a 49-year-old man was shot while walking on the sidewalk in the 800 block of West 75th Street. The man was transported to St. Bernard's hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
