5 Dead, at Least 29 Wounded in Weekend Violence

Five people are dead, including a teen girl, and at least 29 others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend.

The weekend's first fatality happened at approximately 6:16 a.m. Saturday in the 3900 block of West 31^st Street, three men were in a vehicle when a person in another car began firing shots at them, striking all three victims.

One of the men, a 46-year-old, was shot twice in the face and was later pronounced dead at Mount Sinai, according to police.

A 26-year-old man was shot five times in the chest, and is in critical condition at Mount Sinai. Another man, a 38-year-old, was shot twice in the chest and is in stable condition at Mount Sinai.

There is no suspect in custody, and Area Central detectives are continuing to investigate.

Just after 7 p.m. on Sunday night, a man was found in an alley in the 5400 block of South Lawndale with at least one gunshot wound to his neck, police said. 

The man, whose age is estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are conducting a death investigation, and no suspect is in custody. 

Just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a teenage girl was walking in the 900 block of West 52nd Street when someone walked out of an alley and the pair got into a verbal altercation, police said. The man shot the woman three times in the head and multiple times in the upper body, according to authorities. She was taken to University of Chicago Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The man was not in custody as of Monday morning but Area Central detectives were investigating.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office and an initial report from police, the girl was believed to be 17 years old. Police later said Monday morning there were conflicting reports about her age, but they believed she may be 18. 

About two hours later, police responding to a ShotSpotter alert in the 900 block of North Long said they found a 49-year-old man unresponsive on a sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and one to the back. The man was taken to West Suburban Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Police could not find any witnesses to the shooting and no one was in custody as of Monday morning. 

Just afer 3 a.m. Monday, a 32-year-old man was fatally shot in the head while driving in the 7500 block of South Coles, police said. The shooting then caused the man to hit a parked car. He was taken to University of Chicago hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Friday -

• Just before 5 p.m. in the 400 block of East 91^st Place, a 17-year-old boy told police that he was walking down a street when a person pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking him in the elbow. The teen was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he is in good condition.
• A 19-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 8300 block of South Marshfield at approximately 9:43 p.m. when a person in a passing black sedan opened fire, striking him in the leg. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, police said.
• In the 2900 block of South Union at approximately 11:43 p.m., a 20-year-old woman was walking when a person in a passing black sedan opened fire, striking her in the leg. She is in stable condition at an area hospital, and police say no one is in custody.
• Just before midnight in the 5600 block of South Maryland, a 20-year-old man was shot in the foot, police said. The man declined to provide further information to police, and he is listed in good condition after the shooting.

Saturday –

• Two men were driving in a car when a person fired shots at them, striking both victims. A 21-year-old man was shot in the face and arm, and the 43-year-old man was shot in the abdomen. Both men were taken to Mount Sinai, and both are in critical condition, according to police.
• In the 11300 block of South Harvard at approximately 2:18 a.m., a 19-year-old woman was sitting in a car when three men walked up to her and pulled out guns, demanding her property. One man took her phone and another man shot her in the wrist before the trio fled the scene, police say. The woman is in good condition after the shooting.
• At approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 3900 block of West Cermak, a 26-year-old man was walking when he got into a verbal altercation with another man, police said. The man then pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the hand and arm. He was taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition has stabilized.
• A 26-year-old woman was standing in the 500 block of North Pine Street at approximately 4:30 a.m. when she heard gunshots and realized she had been hit in the lower leg. Police say the woman was brought to Loretto Hospital by two Good Samaritans, and she was listed in stable condition.
• Police are investigating after a 15-year-old boy was shot at approximately 3:25 p.m. The boy was in the 2700 block of West Glenlake Avenue when he was shot in the abdomen, and he was brought to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he’s listed in serious condition.
• In the 6300 block of South Parnell Avenue at approximately 7:30 p.m., a 31-year-old man was standing in a group when a person in a black SUV opened fire, striking him in the thigh. The man was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
• At approximately 9:30 p.m. in the 13200 block of South Langley, a 19-year-old man was walking when he was shot in the leg, police said. The man was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
• A 15-year-old boy was walking when he heard gunfire in the 1200 block of West 64^th Street at approximately 10:10 p.m., according to police. The boy was struck in the leg, and he was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in stable condition.
• Police say that a 29-year-old man was dropped off at Stroger Hospital after he was shot multiple times Saturday night. At approximately 11:40 p.m., the man was dropped off at the hospital after having been shot twice in the head and seven times in the arm. He is listed in serious condition.

Sunday –

• In the 5600 block of South Prairie at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim at the University of Chicago Medical Center, and upon arrival found a 34-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. The man refused to cooperate with police, and his condition has stabilized.
• At approximately 2:19 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Polk, a 49-year-old man was breaking up a fight among family members when he was shot by an unknown person, police said. The man was unable to determine where the shots had come from due to the large size of the crowd. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
• A 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were standing on a porch when a person fired shots, striking both victims. Both were taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, police said.
• Police are investigating after a security guard was shot at a venue in the 3200 block of West Cermak. Police say the man saw another individual drop a gun on the floor, and the guard picked it up and escorted two men out of the establishment. The men called friends who came to the venue and pointed their weapons at the guard. One of the original party attendees then took the gun out of the security guard’s waistband and shot him twice before fleeing the scene. The guard was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition.
• In the 1700 block of North Rockwell at approximately 3:30 a.m., a man walking toward his residence was greeted by several men who flashed gang signs at him. The man ignored the signs and continued walking into his building, but one of the men pursued him and struck him multiple times in the face with a handgun. A struggle ensued, and the victim was shot multiple times in the foot. He was taken to St. Mary’s, and is in stable condition.
• At approximately 4:49 a.m. in the 600 block of North Cicero, two 19-year-old men were driving when they were shot, police said. The men drove themselves to Norwegian Hospital, where they being treated.
• A 25-year-old woman was standing in the 4000 block of West Arthington at approximately 5 a.m. when she was shot in the stomach, police said. The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she’s listed in serious condition.
• Police say that a 34-year-old man was standing in the 3300 block of West 16^th Street when two men walked up to him and began shooting, striking him twice in the right buttock. The man was taken to Mount Sinai, where he’s listed in stable condition.
• In the 900 block of North Lockwood at approximately 2:48 p.m., a 27-year-old man was on the street when an unknown gunman walked up and opened fire, striking him in the hand. The man was treated and released at the scene. 
• Around 8:30 p.m., a 34-year-old man was on the street in the 2100 block of S. Fairfield when police say a black Honda approached and someone inside fired shots. The man was hit twice in the right arm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, authorities said.
