Man Shot Through Window of “Problem” Home, Alderman Says

"It wasn't a random shooting," said Ald. Nicholas Sposato (36th). "This is a known problem house."

A 65-year-old man shot through a window of his home likely took a bullet intended for his son, a Northwest Side alderman said Thursday.

The victim was inside his home, on the 8300 block of West Forest Preserve Avenue, shortly before 3 a.m. when someone walked up to the window and shot inside. The man was hit in the face and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was initially listed in critical condition.

"It wasn't a random shooting," said Ald. Nicholas Sposato (36th). "This is a known problem house in the ward. We've been working with police about this."

Sposato said several Dunning neighborhood residents have complained for months about activity at the home.

He said the shooter was likely targeting the victim's son, who he says is a known gang member.

The victim and his son moved into the home about a year ago, Sposato said.
