Illinois Officials Make History on Capitol Hill

In Washington: the swearing in of the 116th Congress. Thursday, the most diverse group of lawmakers in the nation’s history took the oath of office. More than 100 women, including Muslims and Native Americans were part of the group.The Congressional Black Caucus welcomed its biggest class ever. New Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia celebrated with a mariachi band outside his new office on Capitol Hill. He and new representative Sean Casten spoke to NBC 5. Garcia, Casten and Lauren Underwood are the newest representatives from Illinois. Underwood also made history as the youngest black woman ever to be elected to Congress.
