Police located what were originally believed to be human remains in a dumpster in the Loop on Friday morning. NOTE: The remains were ultimately determined to be animal hearts, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has determined that several hearts that were found in a dumpster behind a Loop building were not human, according to a report issued by the office Friday.
Authorities were called to the building, located in the 0-100 block of East Benton Place, at approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday morning after an engineer located what appeared to be human remains in a dumpster behind the building.
After examination by police and the medical examiner, it was determined that the hearts were not human, but officials did not specify what kind of animal hearts were found at the location.
