Thunderstorms Roll Through Chicagoland

About half of all U.S. children and 90 percent of African-American kids will be on food stamps at some point during their childhood, and the recession may have exacerbated the problem, an analysis of 30 years of national data found.

As forecasted, the leisurely warm day turned into a take-cover evening as storms passed over Chicagoland.

The storm brought lightning, heavy downpours and hail.

Quarter-size hail was reported in Evergreen Park, with wind gusts up to 60 mph reported in Hometown.

In Wauconda, a house started on fire because of a lightning strike, officials said.  And in McHenry, an entire parking lot in McHenry was reportedly underwater.

The rain will continue into Thursday with a chance of showers. The high will reach a balmy 83 degrees but will drop to 64 degrees by night fall.

Expect some fall-like temperatures this weekend. Highs in the upper-50s are on the radar Saturday and Sunday.
