Trey Burton Aims to Keep Calm Demeanor as He Battles Former Team

Burton was part of the "Philly Special" play in the Super Bowl last season

Chicago Bears tight end Trey Burton is intimately familiar with how the Philadelphia Eagles conduct their business, but he will be aiming to end his former team’s season on Sunday at Soldier Field.

Burton, who was part of one of the most iconic plays in Super Bowl history last year when the Eagles won the title, will this time be suiting up against his former team when the two clubs tangle at Soldier Field this weekend.

“It will always be a part of my life, my family’s life, and no one can ever take the Super Bowl away from us,” Burton told reporters. “It was an unbelievable time, but now I’m here. I’m excited to be here.”

Here is with the Chicago Bears after signing a four-year contract with the team during the offseason. Head coach Matt Nagy has praised Burton’s quiet leadership this season, and with good reason, as he’s one of a few Bears with postseason experience on the biggest stage imaginable.

His 2018 postseason with the Eagles wasn’t the most prolific in terms of statistics, as he only caught one pass for 12 yards, but he made one of the biggest plays of the postseason when he threw a touchdown pass to Eagles quarterback Nick Foles in a play dubbed the “Philly Special.”

“I would say everything is magnified,” he said. “They put it on this huge pedestal, where in reality it’s just a football game. We’ve been playing 16 or 20 or 21 of them this year, and it’s nothing different than that.”
