Police: Robbers Demand Victims Withdraw Money From ATMs

Police said there have been two similar incidents in Lakeview already this month. NBC Chicago’s Katie Kim reports.

Two robberies earlier this month in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood prompted police this week to issue a community alert in the area.

Both incidents happened within a few blocks of Wrigley Field. One happened at about 3:10 a.m. on April 5 on the 3600 block of North Racine Avenue. The other was a week later, at about 3:20 a.m. on the 3500 block of North Clark Street.

In both cases, the victims were approached by someone who either showed off or implied a handgun and demanded the victim withdraw money from a nearby ATM.

In the first incident, police described the robber as a black man between 20 and 30 years old. He stood about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighed about 145 pounds. He had short black hair and was wearing a black beanie hat with a red stripe, police said. He and another man got away in a black car.

In the Clark Street robbery, police said the robber was a black man between 18 and 25 years old who stood about 6 feet tall and weighed about 160 pounds. He had short, black hair and was wearing a black sweatshirt with white stripes or lettering, and black jeans.
