A car with a mother and baby inside flips off a highway overpass, landing upside down on the Stevenson Expressway below.

A mother and her baby are expected to survive after the car they were in went off a bridge Saturday night on Route 83, landing on the Stevenson Expressway below.

It happened around 11 p.m.  The car was traveling southbound on Route 83 near west suburban Darien when the driver, a mother with her baby in the car, lost control, hit a guardrail and plummeted off the overpass.  The car landed upside-down in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55, Illinois State Police Elgin District Master Sgt. Bart Lamb said.

The woman was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downer's Grove with a broken back and cuts to her head.

The baby's head was fractured in the crash.

Paramedics took the baby to Advocate Lutheran General Children's hospital in Park Ridge.

There's been no word on what caused the crash, or if alcohol was a factor.
