A Chicago police detective has been charged with theft and assault after he refused to pay his cab fare and threatened the driver with a gun in April, according to authorities.
Cab driver Karl Clermont, 33, said he picked up police detective John Killackey, 32, near Armitage and Damen avenues. Upon arriving at his destination, the off-duty detective refused to pay his $8 fare.
Eight dollars. We know it's a rough economy, but surely the cop could come up with that much.
When Clermont demanded to be paid, Killackey allegedly pointed a handgun at the driver.
After an investigation by the state's attorney's office, Killackey was charged on Friday with misdemeanor theft and assault.
Local
Killackey—who has been on the force for nearly 10 years—was also relieved of police powers. An internal investigation is ongoing.
