Boy in Serious Condition After Being Shot in Chicago's Lawndale Neighborhood

A 5-year-old boy was seriously injured after what police believe was an accidental shooting. NBC 5’s Natalie Martinez has the latest details.

A boy is in serious condition after he was shot on Chicago’s West Side on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the boy was inside a residence in the 1800 block of South Homan at approximately 5:20 p.m. when he was shot in the thigh.

Police say the boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Chicago police believe that the shooting was accidental, but have provided no further details due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Investigators were seen bringing out a box from the residence that had a picture of a rifle on the side.
