Boy, 15, Shot to Death During Attempted Robbery on South Side

Fifteen-year-old Demario Bailey was walking with his twin brother to basketball practice when robbers demanded his coat and then shot the boy to death. NBC 5’s Trina Orlando reports.

A 15-year-old boy was shot to death during a robbery attempt on the South Side on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Demario Bailey was on a sidewalk with his twin brother at about 12:40 p.m. in the 0-100 block of West 63rd Street when four people walked up, demanded money and tried to take Bailey's coat, police said.

A gunman among the four then shot Bailey in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The boys were on their way to basketball practice, according to their basketball coach. Their mom said she usually drove them, but on Saturday they took the bus.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately be reached to confirm the fatality.
