Boat on Lake Michigan Struck by Lightning During Storm: Fire Officials

Severe weather moved across the Chicago area Saturday afternoon

A boat on Lake Michigan was struck by lightning during Saturday afternoon's storms, according to a tweet by Chicago Fire officials.

The boat was on the lake near Belmont when it was struck, officials said in the tweet. The boat is now in the harbor, and whoever was inside refused medical treatment.

The lightning strike was one of many during the afternoon storms. Fire officials say several trees were downed and fires sparked at power poles, but no injuries were reported.

Severe storms moved across the Chicago and northern suburbs around 4 p.m. as the entire Chicago area remained under a Tornado Watch until 10 p.m.

Pitchfork music festival in Union Park was forced to evacuate temporarily due to the storms.
