Roberto Madrigal, 18, was charged earlier Friday morning with one count of first-degree murder. NBC Chicago’s Regina Waldroup reports.

A judge on Friday ordered a Chicago teen held without bail in connection with the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy last weekend.

Roberto Madrigal, 18, was charged earlier in the day with one count of first-degree murder. Authorities allege Madrigal shot Anthony Diaz late Sunday night on the 6000 block of West Grand Avenue.

Madrigal, of the 2700 block of North Laramie Avenue, has no criminal background and lives with his father and step-mom. He works with his dad at a plumbing business. In court, authorities said Madrigal admitted to several friends that he was the shooter, and five other witnesses identified him as the gunman.

Diaz's relatives said the teen left his home with his older sisters around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when the girls went  to confront someone about Facebook posts. A fight in the area of Grand Avenue and McVicker Avenue led to gunfire. Diaz  was shot  in the chest as he recorded video of the confrontation with his cell phone.

If convicted, Madrigal faces life in prison. He has a public defender and was scheduled to return to court on March 4.
