Amtrak Train Collides With Vehicle in University Park: Officials

Sky 5 was over the scene Sunday evening after authorities said an Amtrak train collided with a vehicle on the tracks south of University Park Metra Station.

An Amtrak train collided with a vehicle on the tracks south of University Park Metra Station Sunday evening, authorities said.

Amtrak initially tweeted that Illinois Train 393 "stopped between Homewood and Kankakee due to a vehicle on the tracks."

A statement later released said that the crash which occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday, derailed one locomotive and five passenger cars.

Monee Fire Department had ambulances at the scene, though no injuries to the crew or the 297 total passengers onboard were reported, officials said.

Monee and University Park police were working together to investigate the incident.

No other information was immediately known.

Note* An earlier version stated that officials reported the incident occurred in Monee; Amtrak later rectified in a statement released that it took place in University Park.
