On the brink of a second berth to the Olympic Winter Games, Chicagoan Aja Evans doesn’t hesitate when asked where she gets her motivation. Katie Kim reports.
Chicago’s very own Aja Evans is heading back to the Olympics after she was named to the Team USA bobsledding squad.
Evans, who won bronze in Sochi with Jamie Greubel Poser in 2014, will once again team up with Poser as she tries to improve on that medal in PyeongChang.
“The women’s team has been stacked with outstanding talent for the last three Olympic cycles and this year is no exception,” USA Bobsled & Skeleton CEO Darrin Steele said in a statement.
Elana Meyers Taylor will also pilot a sled in PyeongChang, teaming up with Lauren Gibbs in the two-woman event.
Bickner, a member of the famous Norge Ski Club, will be one of a staggering three local jumpers to head to Pyeongchang.
Coyne will look to help Team USA win gold after she was part of the silver medal winning squad in 2014.
nDavis has won four Olympic medals in his career, and will look to capture the gold in the 1000 meter and 1500 meter races in PyeongChang.
Evans won the bronze medal with Team USA in the 2014 Olympics, and she will look to do even better when she re-teams with Jamie Greubel-Poser.
Gehring had a remarkable performance at the U.S. Speedskating Trials, winning the 1000 meter, 1500 meter, and overall titles.
Glasder punched his ticket to the Olympics by winning the U.S. Men's Ski Jumping Trials in late December.
Hansen will compete in a pair of events in PyeongChang, skating in the 1500 meter race with Joey Mantia and Shani Davis and competing in the Mass Start event.
Knight has been a part of the last two Olympic teams, taking home silver medals in both Vancouver and Sochi.
Larson has been jumping since he was six years old, and grew up just five minutes from the Norge Ski Club, where he now trains.
nLehman will join Team USA as a team pursuit specialist for the 2018 Games.
Scimeca-Knierim and her husband Chris won the coveted U.S. pairs slot after winning the U.S. Figure Skating Championship earlier this year.
Tennell burst onto the scene with a win in the 2018 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, and will hope to bring the U.S. its first gold medal in women's figure skating since 2002.
According to Team USA, Briauna Jones will serve as a replacement athlete for the duo’s in South Korea.
The women’s bobsled competition will take place on Feb. 20 and 21 in PyeongChang. The full men’s skeleton and bobsled teams will be named on Monday.
