Woman Dies After Car Crashes Into Church

It's the second vehicle-in-building case in two weeks

For the second time in two weeks a vehicle has made a hole in a building.

A female passenger died Tuesday night after the car she was in crashed into an abandoned church on the city’s West Side, WBBM-780 reported.

The crash created a big and visible hole at one corner of the building at 5301 W. Harrison St. in the South Austin neighborhood.

After taking her to Loretto Hospital, the woman was pronounced dead at 10:15 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The driver was in critical condition and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Tuesday’s crash came just two weeks after a Chicago Transit Authority bus crashed into a house on the city’s south side, knocking down an entire side of the building.

Four people, the bus driver and three passengers, were injured during the crash.
