Overnight Blaze Damages Gresham Building

A storefront and several apartments are damaged after a fire broke out through a three-story building on Chicago’s South Side early Saturday morning.

Authorities are investigating the cause of a blaze that sparked around 2 a.m. at the 7700 block of Halsted St. in the Gresham neighborhood.

The Chicago Fire Department said they battled the fire and focused on the top floor.

The building is a storefront on the first floor, while the top two floors are apartments.

Fire officials say there were no injuries reported.

Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, officials warn of space heaters during this winter weather, if used, they should be at least 3 feet away from furniture.
